## What skrat.im does

Shortener specs, datasheet style. Everything is free and needs no sign-up.

- **Custom alias**: skrat.im/your-name. 2 to 40 characters, letters, digits, hyphens. Availability is checked as you type.
- **Two domains**: skrat.im or krat.im. Each has its own alias namespace, so a taken alias can be free on the other one.
- **QR code**: For every link, as SVG and PNG, in your colours. Just add .png or .svg after the short link.
- **Statistics**: Clicks per day, countries, referrers, devices. No cookies, no tracking of people.
- **Expiry**: By date or by click count. An expired link politely says it no longer works.
- **Password**: Only people who know the password can open the link.
- **Preview**: Add + after any short link to see where it leads before you click.
- **Editing**: Change the destination after creating the link. The short link stays the same.
- **Bulk**: Paste a list of URLs, get a list of short links and a CSV.
- **API and MCP**: A REST API with an OpenAPI description and an MCP server so AI agents can shorten links too.
- **Price**: €0. No limit on the number of links, no ad interstitials.

## For developers and AI agents

One POST and you have a short link. Rate-limited per IP without a key, unlimited with a key from your account.

### Plain-text endpoint

For scripts and shells: returns only the short link as plain text.

## Why skrat.im

### Privacy

I count clicks, country, referrer and device type. IP addresses are not stored and no tracking cookies are used. Links and statistics live on a server in the EU.

### Transparency

Every short link has a preview page showing the destination and a report form. Destinations are checked against a list of harmful sites.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is skrat.im free?

Yes. Shortening, QR codes, statistics and the API are free. An account is optional and free as well.

### How long does a short link last?

Indefinitely, unless you set an expiry or delete it. Expiry can be a date or a click limit.

### What is the difference between skrat.im and krat.im?

They are two domains of the same shortener. skrat.im is the main address with the portal, krat.im is one character shorter. Aliases are separate on each domain, so a taken alias may be free on the other.

### How do I see where a link leads without clicking?

Add a + at the end, for example skrat.im/abc+. You will see the destination, the creation date and the click count.

### Do you track the people who click?

No. I count clicks, country, referrer and device type. IP addresses are not stored and there are no cookies. Unique visitors are estimated from a hash that changes daily and cannot be traced back to a person.

### What if someone uses the shortener for phishing?

Every link has a preview page and a report form. Reported links are reviewed and harmful ones disabled. Destinations are also checked against Google Safe Browsing.

### Can I edit a link later?

Yes. Change the destination, name and expiry under My links. Without an account you manage links in the browser where you created them; with an account, from anywhere.
